These living pieces take place in an outdoor amphitheatre and are accompanied by an orchestra, live narration, and elaborate sets. Orange County Fair

Come to the Orange County Fair for Ferris wheels, livestock shows, funnel cake and much more. This summer celebration has become tradition, where the first fair occurred in 1890 as mainly an agricultural and horse race event. Today the fair hosts events such as flamenco dancers, beekeepers, giant pumpkin competitions, and glassblowing. Join the fun in Costa Mesa from July 16th to August 15th.

Festival of Whales

The Festival of Whales celebrates the California Gray Whales that pass by Dana Point each year on their incredible 5,000 mile journey from Alaska to Mexico. Dana Point’s 200 foot cliffs offer the best whale watching in California, where during peak season 40 to 50 whales pass by each day. Festival events include a parade, outrigger canoe race, lectures on marine mammals, and other activities that take place on March 6th-7th and 13th-14th.

Street Painting Festival

Mission Viejo’s 12th annual Fun With Chalk street painting festival is an event that welcomes children and adults to watch madonnari (street painters) create works of art directly on the asphalt. This festival is a perfect way to spend a weekend admiring the 400 year old performance art at the Norman P. Murray Center. This event occurs on April 24th and 25th.

Strawberry Festival

The Garden Grove Strawberry Festival is a celebration that started in the 1950’s when the region was blanketed in strawberry fields. The tradition continues today in a wave of award-winning strawberry shortcakes, celebrity-laden parades, redheads, and music. This festival occurs on Memorial Day weekend on May 28-31st.

(San Clamente) The San Clemente Ocean Festival invites world class athletes, residents and tourists to take part in family oriented beach games and activities. The events are geared toward environmental education and ocean safety, so come experience the “Greatest Show on Surf” on July 12th and 18th.

Mariachi Festival

An epic addition to Orange County’s Imagination Celebration, Mission San Juan Capistrano hosts the Annual Battle of the Mariachis Festival. Mariachi performers flock to the mission courtyard to compete against rival middle schools, high schools and colleges. Aside from the live music entertainment, there are also children’s workshops, mariachi vocal and dance instruction, and a selection of delicious food. The workshops are provided by students of Laguna College of Art and Design. This event is alcohol-free, and admission fee for the Mission is $5 to $9 per person.

Sawdust Festival

Laguna Beach’s sawdust festival holds both a winter and summer event. The Sawdust Winter Fantasy is held on four weekends between November 21 through December 13. This event features over 175 artists and craftspeople from the entire county and mediums range from blown glass, ceramics, jewelry, paintings, ornaments, and much more. Other attractions include a real field of snow, outdoor cafes and visits with Santa. The ArtisTree Ornament Fundraiser raises money with unique hand-designed ornaments for the Sawdust Art Education Fund. The summer Sawdust festival occurs from June 25 through August 29, featuring fine arts and crafts from local Laguna Beach artists. This event started in 1966, and has attracted art enthusiasts, collectors, novice artists, and the general public to gawk at the incredible diversity of fine arts and crafts from hand-blown glass to metal sculpture and more. Visitors can enjoy live art demonstrations and participate in artist workshops. The Sawdust Festival is an artistic hub for lucid creativity and beauty.
