San Clemente

San Clemente

San Clemente is the southernmost coastal city in Orange County, and is a family-friendly destination for its scenic beauty, surfing, whale watching, and beach activities. Of recent history, President Richard Nixon purchased the H.H. Cotton estate in 1968, a Spanish mansion that overlooks Trestles, a world-class surf break. While the “Western White House” was in Nixon’s possession, several world leaders visited the estate, including Henry Kissinger, Soviet Premier Leonid Brezhnev, and Mexican President Gustavo Diaz Ordaz. The home was sold in 1980, but Nixon’s tenure increased San Clemente’s growth and popularity. Today, the town maintains its charming demeanor with a weekly farmer’s market, monthly art fair and Spanish-style architecture.
