Seal Beach

Seal Beach is a small seaside community located at the mouth of Alamitos Bay in northern Orange County. It consists mainly of neighborhoods, including the gated Surfside Colony. The first gated retirement community in the United States, Leisure World, is located in Seal Beach with approximately 9,000 residents. A major employer of the area is the aerospace company Boeing, which has about 2,000 employees. They continue to be the world’s largest satellite manufacturers, and have facilities that are capable of building materials for manned space flight missions. Old Town Seal Beach has a cute downtown that features the second longest wooden pier, a sandy beach, and low key shops. There is no surfing permitted on the south side of the Seal Beach Pier during the summer months, and all aquatic sports (i.e. windsurfing, kite surfing, and kayaking) are restricted from all beaches except for the area between Second and Fourth street. The Seal Beach National Wildlife Refuge is about 900 acres of saltwater marsh that is a part of the Anaheim Bay estuary and Huntington Harbor. This area is a part of the Naval Weapons Station, which restricts public access to the area.
