Crystal Cove offers 3.2 miles of pristine beach and over 2,400 acres of wilderness. Check the tide charts before visiting to maximize tide pool viewing near Pelican Point. The historic district offers unique dining and coastal walks. Parking Tip: Day-use lots fill quickly on weekends; arrive before 9 AM.

Santiago Oaks Regional Park
🚴 Cycling & Wilderness

Best For: Mountain biking, equestrian trails, and inland wilderness exploration.

Located in the foothills of the Santa Ana Mountains, this park features beautiful groves of native trees and is a haven for mountain bikers. The park offers shaded picnic areas near the creek bed. Caution: Rattlesnakes are common in the summer months; stick to marked trails and wear appropriate footwear.

Balboa Peninsula & Island

Best For: Ocean views, boardwalk cycling, whale watching tours, and family amusements.

The Balboa area is a hub for classic OC fun. Cycle along the boardwalk, rent a Duffy boat to tour the harbor, or take a high-speed catamaran to Catalina Island. Don’t miss the famous Balboa Bar! Insider Tip: Parking is easier on the Island side if you’re only walking; use the ferry to cross back to the Peninsula.
